01 Mar Mumbles Pier Refurbishment
Plan for a major refurbishment
Built in 1898, the 835 feet (255 metres) long Mumbles Pier has always been a popular Swansea landmark for both local people and holiday makers. But as with all Victorian era landmarks, regular refurbishment and maintenance is the only way to ensure its viable future.
The owners are determined that the pier continues to be the attraction that it so obviously is and some years ago, set out a plan for a major refurbishment.
UK Industrial Services won the contract for the first phase of the refurbishment of Mumbles Pier, which involved extensive beam and deck replacement to and around the entrance to the pier. This phase was completed earlier this year. Now UK Industrial Services has just been awarded the contract to start phases 1a and 2. These next phases will see the replacement of beams and decking along the neck towards the pier head.
Roger Speakman is the managing Director of Mumbles Pier: “We are really delighted to have been awarded the next two phases. This is a fantastic structure which is a real pleasure to work on.”
